When I shop for dresses, I try to think of different ways I can style them so that I can get a lot of use from them. I have many dresses that I use for just special occasions but the dresses I like to wear throughout the day in the spring and summer are ones I want to be able to carry through with me into the evenings and also into the cooler months.

One of my favorite dresses I got last year was an easy soft swing dress that I wore nonstop. It was one of those dresses that felt like I was wearing pajamas all the time and also went with darn near everything in my closet. I know I’ll be wearing it all the time again this summer as the weather warms up.

It can be a little overwhelming when someone says they wear a piece with “everything” so today I’m sharing seven different ways how I add a little more dimension to a basic dress!

Outfit 1
swing dress // straw bag // cross strap sandals

This is just a basic way of wearing the dress as a stand alone piece. As the weather warms up, this is the best option for keeping cool and I love it paired with a cute straw tote bag.

Outfit 2
swing dress // graphic tee // double strap sandals

I love throwing a graphic tee over the top of a dress! It mixes things up from the typical jean shorts and a tee look!

Outfit 3
swing dress // denim vest // tennis shoes

I’m new to the denim vest game but I absolutely love it thrown over a casual dress! Such a great extra versatile piece!

Outfit 4
swing dress // cardigan // short booties

Adding a sweater with booties is a better look for the fall but if it’s cooler by you or at night time this outfit would be perfect!

Outfit 5
swing dress // white denim jeans // cross strap sandals

This is a new one for me to experiment with but I just tied the dress up with a clear hair tie from my kids! Simply gather the bottom up and move it to the side just a little, not too much because you don’t want to look too twisted on top. Loop the hair tie around to hold it together and there you go! I love the distressed denim with any stripe!

Outfit 6
swing dress // white button up shirt // tennis shoes

I’m always wearing something with a longer sleeve in the morning or when the air conditioning is on full blast. This tie up shirt is the perfect option while still keeping the summer feel.

Outfit 7
swing dress // jean shorts // double strap sandals

Dare I tuck in my dress to a pair of jean shorts. I did indeed when I realized on a windy day that everyone would get a great view of my underwear when my dress flew up outside! It’s a totally different take on a dress and I wish every dress I had could be tucked in to make a cute tunic!

What a cute dress! I love how you styled it tied to the side as a top. I never thought about doing that!

I love how creative you are! I would never think to just tie a knot and wear it as a shirt, but it totally works!
